Sport fishing put Los Cabos on the map. Los Cabos is
a fishing haven known as the Marlin Capital of the world. There
are more striped marlin caught within 20 miles of Cabo San Lucas
year round than any place in the world.
Marlin is not the only fish you can catch. The deep water canyons
at the mouth of Cabo San Lucas harbor and the warm Sea of Cortez
waters create favorable fishing conditions most of the year for
yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi, and even wahoo. Catch and release is
the name of the game with the marlin and other trophy fish, but
mahi-mahi and tuna are yours to keep. The peak season for marlin
is mid-October through December, and after January varying species
run well each month.
There are 500 fishing boats based in Los Cabos. Fishing excursions
of any kind are easily booked. Excursions of half day, full day,
multi day and even those with luxury accommodations and gourmet
meals are available.
Costs will run from $400 for a full day on a cruiser to $100
for a half day on a panga; they all include fishing gear. Fishing
in Los Cabos isn’t reserved just for the rich and famous!

Nature
Baja Whale Watching in Mexico
For an adventure of a lifetime, watch the migration of hundreds
of whales from the frigid waters of the artic to the warm, calm
waters surrounding the Baja Peninsula. The whale watching season
in Los Cabos begins in late December and lasts through late
March.
Ninety percent of the migrating whales travel to the waters
off Los Cabos, while the remaining 10 percent make their way to
the waters off Korea. Of the 11 species of whales found worldwide,
eight venture to the waters off Los Cabos, including minke, bride,
sei, humpback, beluga, gray and blue.
The whales are often close enough to the shores of Los Cabos
to see from beaches and overlooks. Many local tour companies also
offer whale watching trips. There are two- and-a-half hour boat
tours in the bays around Los Cabos, either by catamaran or power
boat.
Shallow waters and abundant marine life make the bays and lagoons
north of Los Cabos the perfect place for whales to birth and rear
their young. The primary breeding areas are Magdalena, Vixcaino
and Reforma Bays and Ojo de Libre, Guerrero Negri and San Ignacio
Lagoons. It is in these tranquil, warm waters that the females
give birth to and nurse their young calves, teach them to swim
and prepare them for the long journey back to the frigid waters
in the north.
